geography

The commune is eight kilometers from Remoulins and 20 kilometers from Bagnols-sur-Cèze .

history

Because of its location, Valliguières has always been an important stop for travelers. Two marker stones of the Roman road Nîmes - Pont-Saint-Esprit have been preserved in a hostel. The remains of Roman villas were found in the hamlets of Gassargues and Andézon . Between the 9th and 12th centuries the village shifted from the plain to the hills. The name is derived from Valle Aqua , valley of water. In 1392, during the Hundred Years War , protective walls were built around the village. In 1702 the village was hit by the camisard revolt and in 1720 by the plague.
