Band history

EZ3kiel was founded in 1993 by Yann Nguema (bass), drummer Matthieu Fays and guitarist Florent Duytschaever. In 1994 Brigitte Amédomé joined the band as singer and Joan Guillon as guitarist. The first single Equalize It was released in 1999 as an in-house production. At that time the band only consisted of the trio Matthieu Fays, Yann Nguema and Joan Guillon. In the same year the band developed the idea of merging their music into an audiovisual work of art. In 2001 they released their first album Handling with Care under the label Jarring Effects . The album was created with the participation of well-known French artists from the independent scene such as Yann Tiersen , Sylvestre by Dit Terzi and Sir Jean by Meï Teï Sho. In 2003 they released their second album BARB4RY . This time in collaboration with Angélique Willkie (ex- Zap Mama ), Angelo Moore ( Fishbone ), DAAU and Black Sifichi, among others. In 2007 the multi-instrumentalist Stéphane Babiaud joined the group.

In 2009 EZ3kiel founded the Naphtaline Orchestra, consisting of 40 musicians from the Grenoble University of Music . With Stéphane Babiaud in the role of conductor, the orchestra played variations on earlier pieces at the Hexagone Theater in Meylan (2010), the Grand Théâtre in Tours (2011), and the Sebastopol Theater in Lille (2012).

Music genre

Initially shaped by experimental hardcore punk bands like Bad Brains , in 1998 the style of music changed to electronic music . Elements of dub, trip-hop and breakbeats have dominated the output of the band ever since. In addition, the visual component became important.
