Earlene Brown
Earlene Brown (born Dennis ; born July 11, 1935 in Laredo , Texas , † May 1983 in Compton ) was an American shot putter and discus thrower .
At the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, she was sixth in the shot put and fourth in the discus throw. In 1959 she won gold in both disciplines at the Pan American Games in Chicago .
The following year she won bronze in the shot put at the Olympic Games in Rome with 16.42 m behind Tamara Press from the Soviet Union (17.32 m) and the German Johanna Lüttge (16.61 m). She was sixth in the discus throw.
After finishing twelfth in the shot put at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, she ended her athletics career and became a star in the Roller Games, a variant of the Roller Derby .
Eight times she was US champion in the shot put (1956-1962, 1964), three times in the discus throw (1958, 1959, 1961) and once in the baseball throw (1957). In 1958 she won the national title in the shot put in the hall. She set seven national records in the shot put and six in the discus throw, most recently with 16.69 m on September 22 in Frankfurt am Main and with 53.91 m on July 16, 1960 in Abilene .
