Early autumn
Early Autumn is a composition by Ralph Burns (with the participation of Woody Herman and Barbara Belle) with a text by Johnny Mercer from 1948. The modern jazz composition has 32 bars and is characterized by the song form AABA with descending, sequence-like melodies.
First shot
His solo on Early Autum in the Big Band of Woody Herman, which was released by Capitol Records in 1949 , helped Stan Getz to breakthrough and in the same year gave him success in the down beat reader poll and international recognition. The composition was recorded in 1949 by Herman with the soloist Getz under the title "Summer Sequence (Part 4)" for Columbia Records .
