Plot of the first season

Developed by Steve Knapman and Kris Wyld and directed by Peter Andrikidis, the series is set in Sydney . Zane Malik works in the Serious Crime Department ; he is of Iraqi descent and Muslim . His senior colleague Ray Crowley has British roots and is skeptical of immigrants and Malik's investigative methods. Together they investigate in the suburbs of Sydney, which are characterized by immigration and mistrust, whereby prejudices , religious questions and different values ​​are discussed again and again .

The series received positive reviews from the German press. The taz spoke of a “cliché drawer” and criticized the unimaginative crime story, but praised the good direction and the presentation of socio-political issues. The Hamburger Abendblatt highlighted the cast and character drawings. Der Spiegel online called East West 101 a "series highlight" and a "lesson about the prejudices of a multiethnic western society after 9/11". Quotemeter.de rated the series consistently positive, especially the fact that it "does not run according to the scheme".
