Eberhard Ludwig Becht (born August 9, 1732 in Heilbronn ; † April 6, 1803 there ) was a German archivist and from 1796 to 1801 mayor of Heilbronn.

Life

He was born as the son of Dr. Ulrich Friedrich Becht was born and was able to inherit a large amount as an estate, namely 74,769 guilders , 45 kreuzers . He studied law at the Universities of Halle (Saale) and Göttingen . 1758 was Becht Under archivist at Stadtarchiv Heilbronn , where he got a fee of 250 guilders a year 1769th The archive building of the Heilbronner Stadtarchiv (today Heilbronner Ehrenhalle ), built from 1765 onwards, goes back to his instigation, was planned by the local master builder Georg Heinrich von Roßkampff and appropriately equipped inside by Becht. In 1772 he became the first archivist. From 1777 belonged to the small, inner council ("von den burgern"), was tax master from 1793 and from 1796 to 1801 one of the three mayors of the city. His brother Johann Moriz Becht (1729–1803) belonged to the city administration as Syndicus .

In 1782 he was in conflict with Georg Heinrich von Roßkampff, who had meanwhile risen to mayor, because of grievances in the city's orphanage, breeding and workhouse , which had been built on an initiative of Roßkampff. After Roßkampff's death in 1794, Becht took his place in the orphanage care department and caused the institution to be dismantled quickly.
