Eberhard Ostendorff

Eberhard Ostendorff (born July 17, 1905 in Bippen ; † May 25, 1984 ) was a German geologist and mineralogist .

Life

Ostendorff completed after the annuals exams at first a lesson in agriculture and forestry, then took in a Begabtenprüfung the High School and studied mineralogy and soil science in Bonn, Berlin and Hamburg. The doctorate to Dr. techn. he obtained with distinction. His first professional activity took him to the Geological Institute in Gdansk . From 1936 he worked privately as a geologist and soil scientist. Projects in which he was involved were the mapping of Italy and Silesia as well as activities in the context of the dike work on the North Sea . He later became head of the Soil Research Center in Gdansk. After his habilitation, he was given a teaching position in geology and mineralogy. In 1946 he became an assistant and in 1950 a professor at the Technical University in Stuttgart . In 1969 he retired, which he spent in his hometown of Bippen. He published a six-volume local chronicle and folklore of Bippen and was involved as long-time chairman of the district home association of Bersenbrück .
