Eberhard Thunert (born November 22, 1899 in Kulmsee ; † May 4, 1964 in Wuppertal ) was a German officer in World War II , most recently (since May 1945) with the rank of lieutenant general .

Life

Thunert served as an officer in the First World War . After the war he switched to the Reichswehr and worked as a commander and general staff officer in various units. Since September 1944 he was in command of the 1st Panzer Division . At the end of the war, the 1st Panzer Division was in Vorau , where it prevented the monastery from being destroyed. In 1947 he was released from captivity in the US.

After the war he lived in Wuppertal, but regularly returned to Styria on vacation . Professionally, he worked for Schlaraffia AG. Since 1926 he was married to Wenka-Augusta Ohlsen, with whom he had a daughter and two sons.
