Echinomastus johnsonii is a species of plant in the genus Echinomastus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). English common names are "Chartreuse Pineapple cactus", "Johnson's Pineapple Cactus", "Pineapple Cactus" and "Pink Viznagita".

Echinomastus johnsonii usually grows individually with egg-shaped to cylindrical, densely thorny shoots that reach heights of 10 to 25 centimeters with diameters of 5 to 10 centimeters. There are 17 to 21 ribs , which are clearly divided into about 6 millimeter long cusps . The 4 to 9 (almost) straight, spread out central spines are slightly pink to reddish, become darker with age and are 3 to 4 centimeters long. The lighter 9 to 10 spread radial spines are 1.2 to 2 centimeters long.

The funnel-shaped, magenta, pink or greenish yellow flowers are 5 to 6 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 5 to 7.5 centimeters. The green fruits tear open vertically and turn ocher in color when ripe.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Echinomastus johnsonii is common in the United States in the states of California , Arizona, and Nevada .

It was first described as Echinocactus johnsonii in 1871 by George Engelmann . Edgar Martin Baxter placed the species in the genus Echinomastus in 1935 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
