Echinomastus warnockii is a species of plant in the genus Echinomastus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). An English common name is "Warnock Cactus".

description

Echinomastus warnockii grows individually with egg-shaped, densely thorny shoots that reach heights of 7 to 11 centimeters with a diameter of 5 to 7 centimeters. There are 13 to 21 laterally compressed ribs that are clearly divided into cusps . The 4 to 6 straight central spines are ocher colored with a darker point and 1.2 to 2.5 inches long. The lowest of them is directed downwards. The 12 to 14 radial spines resemble the central spines. They are irregularly spread and 2 to 2.5 millimeters long.

The pink to white flowers are 2 to 2.5 inches long and have the same diameter. The more or less spherical fruits are dry and reach a diameter of about 6 millimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Echinomastus warnockii is found in the United States in the state of Texas and in the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Coahuila .

It was first described as Neolloydia warnockii in 1969 by Lyman David Benson . Charles Edward Glass and Robert A. Foster placed them in 1975 in the genus Echinomastus .

Nomenclatory synonyms are Sclerocactus warnockii (LDBenson) NPTaylor (1987) and Pediocactus warnockii (LDBenson) Halda (1998).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
