Echinopsis callichroma is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet callichroma is derived from the Greek words kallos for 'beauty' and chroma for 'color' and refers to the color of the flowers.

description

Echinopsis callichroma usually grows individually. The spherical to somewhat conical , gray-green shoots that extend into the roots reach heights of 2 to 3 centimeters with a diameter of 12 to 15 centimeters. There are 17 to 19 sharp-edged, up to 1 centimeter high ribs that are notched. The elliptical areoles on it are gray and 1 to 2.5 centimeters apart. The twelve to 14 bendable thorns arising from them stand out like a comb. The gray, needle-like thorns are curved and have a length of 2 to 6 centimeters.

The funnel-shaped, bright reddish magenta to fuchsia-colored flowers appear on the side of the shoots. They become 8 to 9 inches long. Your bracts have a darker central stripe.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis callichroma is distributed in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba in the province of Tapacarí at altitudes around 2700 meters.

The first description by Martín Cárdenas was published in 1965.
