Echinopsis cochabambensis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet cochabambensis refers to the occurrence of the species in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba .

description

Echinopsis cochabambensis usually ramifies and forms small groups. The spherical to short cylindrical shoots are bright green. There are about ten rounded ribs that are humped or notched. The sunken areoles located on them are up to 1 centimeter apart. From them arise deep brown, very piercing thorns of up to 1 centimeter in length and more. Usually a single central spine is formed. The five to nine radial spines stand out.

The flowers are white.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis cochabambensis is widespread in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba in the transition area from the Chaco to the Puna vegetation at altitudes of 2500 to 3000 meters.

The first description by Curt Backeberg was published in 1957.

Echinopsis cochabambensis is not well known. Curt Backeberg initially considered the plants to belong to Echinopsis huotii .
