Echinopsis pseudomamillosa is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet pseudomamillosa is derived from the Greek word pseudo for 'wrong' and refers to the similarity with the species Echinopsis mamillosa .

description

Echinopsis pseudomamillosa grows individually. The spherical to broadly spherical shoots reach heights of up to 8 centimeters with a diameter of 12 centimeters. There are about 18 clearly notched ribs that form distinct humps. The elliptical areoles on them are cream-colored and are up to 1.5 centimeters apart. From them arise seven to ten very unequal thorns , which are arranged somewhat comb-shaped. Four to seven thorns protrude sideways, two are directed upwards and one is directed downwards. The needle-like thorns are gray, have a brown tip and are 0.5 to 4 centimeters long.

The funnel-shaped, long-tube, white flowers appear laterally near the apex of the shoots and open at night. They are up to 18 centimeters long and have a diameter of 8 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis pseudomamillosa is widespread in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba province of Cercado in middle altitudes around 2500 meters.

The first description by Martín Cárdenas was published in 1959.

Echinopsis pseudomamillosa is considered a synonym of Echinopsis obrepanda by Walter Rausch and also by Gonzalo Navarro .
