Echinopsis santaensis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet santaensis refers to the occurrence of the species in the valley of the Río Santa in Peru .

description

Echinopsis santaensis grows shrubby with several upright branches branching from the base and reaches heights of growth of up to 5 meters. The cylindrical, gray-green and somewhat frosted shoots have a diameter of up to 15 centimeters. There are seven broad and flat ribs that are notched above the areoles . The thorns emerging from the areoles are brownish. The single central spine is up to 4 inches long. The two to three radial spines are 2 to 3 centimeters long.

Nothing is known about the flowers and the fruits .

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis santaensis is common in the Peruvian region of Ancash in the valley of the Río Santa at altitudes of 2800 to 3000 meters.

The first description as Trichocereus santaensis by Werner Rauh and Curt Backeberg was published in 1956. Heimo Friedrich and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed the species in 1974 in the genus Echinopsis .

Echinopsis santaensis is poorly known.
