Echt is a town in the Scottish council area of Aberdeenshire . It is located around 20 kilometers west of Aberdeen off the northeast flank of the Hill of Fare .

history

On a hill to the northwest of the village is a late Bronze Age hill fort . A cairn southeast of Echt is also classified as Bronze Age . The stone circles of Cullerlie , Midmar and Sunhoney also attest to the early settlement.

To the west is Tower House Midmar Castle , which was rebuilt after being destroyed in the Battle of Corriechie in 1562 . The listed parish church of Echt was built in 1804. In the past cattle markets were held in Echt.

Between 1861 and 1881 the population of Echt showed only slight fluctuations between 1259 and 1296. Between 1961 and 1991 the population rose from 120 to 200.

In Echt, two subordinate streets intersect. They connect the village to the A944 (Aberdeen - Corgarff ) running through Dunecht or the A93 leading from Perth to Aberdeen .
