Eckardt Trowitzsch

Eckardt Trowitzsch (* 1948 in Fehmarn ) is a German doctor , university professor and former basketball player and trainer.

Life

After attending school at the Katharineum in Lübeck , Trowitzsch studied human medicine at the University of Hamburg between 1967 and 1973 . During his student days he played for Hamburg TB in the basketball league , in October 1973 he switched to the coaching position for the same team, which he held until the end of the 1973/74 Bundesliga season.

His doctoral thesis entitled “Telemetric examinations of the heart rate of top basketball players before competitions” was accepted at the University of Hamburg in 1973, and until 1975 he worked as a medical assistant in the Hamburg area . In 1975 Trowitzsch took up a position as an assistant doctor at the Hannover Medical School , and from 1981 to 1983 he was senior physician there. In 1980 he completed his training as a specialist in paediatrics, and in 1983 he gained the additional title of pediatric cardiologist. In 1983 and 1984 Trowitzsch conducted research at Harvard Medical School in the United States . In 1985 he completed his habilitation (subject: “Echocardiographic examinations on the function of the right ventricle in children with congenital heart defects with extreme right heart strain”).

In 1986 he became chief physician in the cardiology and pulmonology department of the Vestische Children's and Youth Clinic in Datteln and, from 1989, also managed the sleep laboratories at the same hospital. In 1992 Trowitzsch was appointed adjunct professor at the Hannover Medical School , and from 1995 he also taught in the pediatric cardiology department at the Medical Faculty of the University of Witten / Herdecke . In 2006 he was one of the founders of the Academy of the Society for Pediatric Cardiology and became a member of the scientific advisory board. He was the founding president of the Society of Children's Clinics for Research into Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and later became its honorary president.

In addition to pediatric cardiology, including sudden infant death syndrome, congenital heart defects in adults are also one of the focal points of his scientific work.
