Eckart Köhne (* 1966 in Karlsruhe ) is a German museum director , classical archaeologist and museum director. Since 2014 he has been director of the Badisches Landesmuseum and president of the German Museum Association .

Life

After graduating from the Bismarck-Gymnasium in Karlsruhe, Eckart Köhne studied classical archeology , ancient history and Christian archeology in Bonn and Heidelberg and received his doctorate in Heidelberg in 1996 with a thesis on the iconography of the Dioscuri .

In 1997/98 Köhne began his museum work as a volunteer at the Museum of Art and Industry in Hamburg , and in 1999/2000 he was curator of the exhibition "Gladiators and Caesars". From 2001 to 2004 he worked as a speaker at the Museumsverband Rheinland-Pfalz . From 2004 to 2007 he planned and organized the State Exhibition Constantine the Great in Trier and took over the management of the Rheinisches Landesmuseum there in April 2008 . In 2011 he moved to the Palatinate Historical Museum in Speyer as director and managing director . A member of the board since 2010, Eckart Köhne was elected President of the German Museum Association in May 2014 to succeed Volker Rodekamp . Since July 2014 he has been director of the Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe Palace.

He is married to the former director of the Württemberg State Museum in Stuttgart, the classical archaeologist Cornelia Ewigleben .
