State exhibitions in Rhineland-Palatinate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

State exhibitions in Rhineland-Palatinate mainly deal with topics that are related to the state and are therefore either subsidized by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, as for example in the case of the exhibition on the Duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken in 2010 in Zweibrücken or in rarer cases also fully organized and financed, such as the large state exhibition about the Salier in Speyer in 1992.

Meaning of the term national exhibition

In Rhineland-Palatinate, unlike, for example, in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt or Saxony, there is no elaborated concept for a regularly recurring large cultural-historical exhibition in the responsibility of the state or with the state as the main donor and co-organizer. Nevertheless, national exhibitions of this kind have already taken place on special occasions. Large cultural-historical exhibitions with a seven-figure budget, which the state of Rhineland-Palatinate organized and financed on its own, have so far been the exhibition on the Salians held in Speyer in 1992, the exhibition on Constantine the Great in Trier in 2007 and the one that started in September 2017 State exhibition about Richard the Lionheart in Speyer, which ended in April 2018. Another exhibition in this sense with the explicit label Great State Exhibition took place on the 200th birthday of Karl Marx from May 5, 2018 to October 21, 2018 in Trier.

Smaller cultural-historical state exhibitions have taken place since 1984 as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Day and were financed by the Ministry of Culture . Also under the name National Exhibition can museums of Rhineland-Palatinate will present their collections on selected topics for smaller budgets. Although the designation “state exhibition” is not protected in Rhineland-Palatinate, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate has given express approval in all cases of so-called “state exhibitions”.
