Exhibitions

  • Ulrich von Hutten - knight, humanist, publicist 1488 - 1523 . Large exhibition of the State of Hesse from July 3 to September 11, 1988 in Schlüchtern on the occasion of Ulrich von Hutten's 500th birthday . Ulrich von Hutten was born on April 21, 1488 at Steckelberg Castle . A large-format scientific catalog of 468 pages was published for the exhibition.
  • Hesse and Thuringia - from the beginnings to the Reformation . An exhibition by the State of Hesse from May 27, 1992 to July 26, 1992 in the Landgrave Castle in Marburg and from August 26, 1992 to October 25, 1992 at the Wartburg in Eisenach. The Hessian state exhibition “Hesse and Thuringia - From the Beginnings to the Reformation” was the largest project of this kind by the State of Hesse up to that point. The company was initiated by the then Hessian Prime Minister Walter Wallmann in the winter of 1987/88 when nobody could foresee that 1990 German reunification would come. On February 29, 1988, the synopsis was signed, which outlined the central framework of the exhibition, which was limited in terms of the basic concept to around 400 Hessian, Old German and Western European exhibits. The Hessian state parliament approved 2.4 million DM for this state exhibition. The year 1992 was chosen because 700 years earlier, on May 12, 1292, Landgrave Heinrich I of Hesse had ascended to the circle of imperial princes, one for the Hessian princes National history very important event. The historical institute of the Justus Liebig University Giessen , regional history department , was the scientific sponsor of the exhibition . In preparing the exhibition, it worked closely with the Historical Commission for Hesse in Marburg, chaired by Walter Heinemeyer . When the Berlin Wall fell on November 9, 1989 and the state of Thuringia was rebuilt in 1990 , the opportunity arose to expand the state exhibition by a further 400 exhibits from previously East German and Eastern European provenance and to show the exhibition in Thuringia as well. This significantly expanded the original concept and turned it into a representative overall view of the historical interdependence of two neighboring politico-spatial countries. Around 160 museums, archives, libraries and private individuals took part in the exhibition.
  • The riddle of the Celts from Glauberg . May 24 to September 1, 2002, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt am Main

The state exhibition was dedicated to the Kingdom of Westphalia , which existed for only six years from 1807 to 1813 and, as a French model state, produced the first written constitution and the first parliament of a German state. The short existence of this state was accompanied by extensive investments in art and culture, which had a lasting impact on the region. The exhibition comprised around 600 objects from 180 lenders and was accompanied by an extensive supporting program.
