State exhibition Baden-Württemberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The eleven state museums from Baden-Württemberg can present their holdings on selected topics under the name Great State Exhibition . The major state exhibitions in Baden-Wuerttemberg mainly deal with topics related to the south-west of Germany. This special form of special exhibition called the Great State Exhibition has existed since 1977 , but in an irregular sequence until 1997. Large state exhibitions have been organized at least once a year since 1997, and increasingly several a year. After up to five major state exhibitions were held in one year from 2005 to 2014, this number is to be limited to a maximum of three from 2015. Orientation towards the country, its culture and its history is intended to promote the country's identity. Some exhibitions deal with general topics from art, culture and science.

The state of Baden-Württemberg supports the large state exhibitions with grants. For the year 2008, for example, around 3.5 million euros were earmarked for this. The individual exhibitions are usually also supported by sponsors. In the years 2017 to 2020, a total of around twelve million euros are to be invested by the state government so that the eleven state museums in Baden-Württemberg can organize special exhibitions. Of these, 10 major state exhibitions and 11 further state exhibitions will take place without the title major state exhibition.

State exhibition from 1955

Special postage stamp of the Deutsche Bundespost on the occasion of the state exhibition in Stuttgart in 1955

As early as 1955, a major exhibition on the history, society and culture of the former regions of Württemberg , Baden and Hohenzollern took place in Stuttgart under the name State Exhibition Baden-Württemberg . A special focus was also on an exhibition of industry and business in the new federal state founded in 1952. The state exhibition was opened on July 1, 1955 by Federal President Theodor Heuss on the former Killesberg exhibition grounds and served to promote acceptance in the new federal state. In this respect, this event, called the state exhibition from July 1 to October 2, 1955, is not in the tradition of the large state exhibitions of the eleven state museums that began in 1977 because of its special fair-like nature.
