Eckehard Bamberger
Eckehard Bamberger (born July 11, 1931 in St. Valentin , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian writer.
Life
Study and job
Eckehard Bamberger studied philosophy , art history and musicology in Innsbruck from 1951 . In 1956 he moved to Vienna.
On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Bamberger founded the “ Österreichische Phonothek ” as a national media archive for sound and image documentation. The focus of the collection activity is on contemporary history, particularly in the areas of politics, science and art. In 1965, the “Austrian Sounding Archive” began its record production and organized record sales. For an office of the Ministry of Education it was initially difficult to set up a record production, as a trade license was a prerequisite for this company, so the Austrian Phonothek was treated as a "private" company in this regard. Eventually this hurdle could be overcome, so the way was free to set up a record production. In the years 1965–1973 40 records were produced. Including: 15 records "Austrian Music of the 20th Century", "The Work of the Schrammel Brothers", "Folk Music from Tyrol", "Kengele za juu".
In 1980 a hall with 80 seats was set up in Vienna and an "audio-visual theater" was opened. The audiovisuals of the Austrian Phonotheque brought music visualizations such as Franz Schubert's “Die Schöne Müllerin”, Modest Mussorgsky's “Pictures at an Exhibition”, Claude Debussy's and M. Ravel's “Multimedia Concert”, Richard Strauss 'and Camille Saint-Saëns ' “Märchen und Stories played from the music stand ”and Joseph Haydns '“ The Creation ”. Pictorial ideas about what was heard could lead to an intensification of the understanding of music. The demonstrations were mainly used by schoolchildren. The establishment of the audio-visual theater opened a new phase in the development of the Austrian Phonothek. In connection with Bamberger's retirement, in 2001 the Austrian Phonothek became a department of the Technical Museum Vienna and renamed the Austrian Media Library .
