Eckhard Naumann (born June 2, 1947 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg ) is a German local politician of the SPD and former Lord Mayor of Lutherstadt Wittenberg.

Life

After graduating from school, the son of a blacksmith took up an apprenticeship in chemistry with a high school diploma, which he completed in 1967. He completed his subsequent studies in 1971 with a degree in process engineering. He then worked from 1971 as a software developer and in 1989 as the head of the data center at VEB nitrogen works Piesteritz . During the political upheaval in the GDR , he was initially committed to the democratic awakening and joined the SPD in 1990 .

Political offices

Since June 6, 1990, he has been mayor and, after the second election and amended municipal constitution of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, since June 1994, Lord Mayor of Lutherstadt Wittenberg. In April 2008 he won the mayoral election for his fourth term, which ended in July 2015. During his tenure he campaigned for the establishment of a new, democratically constituted city administration, for an urban redevelopment of Lutherstadt Wittenberg and for the industrial location of the same.
