Eckhard Reith

Eckhard Friedrich Werner Reith (born May 15, 1919 in Fulda ; † June 3, 2011 ) was a German politician. From October 15, 1957 to October 15, 1961, he was a member of the German Bundestag for one electoral term . He was elected on the state list of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) in Hesse .

Life

Reith graduated from the Liebig-Oberrealschule in Darmstadt in 1938 and then studied theology at the universities of Bethel and Göttingen, as well as medicine in Leipzig, Tübingen and Frankfurt. During his studies he took part in World War II as a soldier and continued his studies after the war. In 1949 he passed the state examination and the following year he received his doctorate in medicine. In the following years he worked as an assistant in various clinics and for a short time as a research assistant. In 1955 he opened a doctor's practice in Birkenau .

In 1946, shortly after the end of the war, Reith joined the CDU, for which he was active on the district board of the Darmstadt-Land district. He was only on the municipal council in Seeheim, after moving to the municipal council in Birkenau. In the federal election in 1957 , Reith was elected to the German Bundestag via the Hessian CDU state list. There he was a member of the Committee on Health Issues and War Victims. Also in the Committee on Atomic Energy and Water Management. In the 1961 Bundestag election he was unable to regain his mandate and consequently resigned from the Bundestag.
