Eckhard Schleifenbaum

Eckhard Schleifenbaum (born January 18, 1939 in Siegen ; † December 13, 1981 there ) was a German politician ( FDP ) and entrepreneur.

Eckhard Schleifenbaum was born the second of three children to the entrepreneur Ernst Schleifenbaum and his wife Elfriede Boetticher; he had a brother and a sister. He attended the municipal boys' high school in Siegen, where he graduated from high school in 1958. After completing a commercial apprenticeship in Düsseldorf, Neunkirchen / Saar and Cologne, he began studying economics at the University of Cologne , which he graduated with a diploma in 1963. In the following years he was a tax assistant and from 1966 managing director of Siegener Industrie- und Handels-GmbH and Siegener Eisenhandlung GmbH.

Schleifenbaum had been married to the physiotherapist Christa Pick since 1964. The marriage resulted in two daughters. He was a keen rider, interested in photography and ethnology, and spoke fluent English and French . He died of leukemia at the age of 42 .

Political work

The 22-year-old came to the FDP via the Liberal Student Union and the Young Democrats , which he joined on April 23, 1961; he became a state board member of the German Young Democrats (DJD). From 1972 to 1974 he was deputy chairman and from 1974 to 1980 district chairman of the FDP in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district and in 1975 deputy district administrator in the Siegen district . Schleifenbaum was a member of the German Bundestag from 1975 to 1976 ( 7th electoral term ) and 1979 to October 1980 ( 8th electoral term ) ; 1974 to 1976 and 1978 to 1980 he was deputy and from 1980 district chairman of Westphalia-West and a member of the state executive board of North Rhine-Westphalia and, since 1978, deputy chairman ( European commissioner ) of the state committee for foreign and European policy .
