Eckhardt Fuchs

Eckhardt Fuchs (* 1961 ) is a German historian and educationalist and has been the director of the Georg Eckert Institute - Leibniz Institute for International Textbook Research in Braunschweig, since October 2015 .

Life

Fuchs studied history at the University of Leipzig from 1983 to 1988 and received his doctorate in 1992. From 2001 to 2007 he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Educational Science I at the University of Mannheim , where he qualified as a professor in 2004 and became a professor in 2007. He became research coordinator at the Georg Eckert Institute in 2007 and deputy director from June 2009 to September 2015.

Since 2011 he has been a full professor for historical and comparative educational research at the TU Braunschweig . As a historian, he previously worked at the Historical Commission in Berlin , the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies , the German Historical Institute in Washington and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin.

His main research interests include the global history of modern education, international educational policy, curriculum and textbook development, and the history of science and historiography.

Fuchs is part of the editorial team of the magazine " Comparativ ". From 2012 to 2015 he was President of the International Standing Conference for the History of Education, the international professional association for historical educational research (ISCHE).
