Eddie Arcaro (full name Eddie Edward Arcaro ; born February 19, 1916 in Cincinnati , Ohio ; † November 14, 1997 ) was an American jockey who was the only one to win the American Triple Crown twice: in 1941 on Whirlaway , 1948 on Citation .

Arcaro won his first race at the age of 16 in 1932 at the Hipódromo de Agua Caliente in Tijuana , Mexico .

In 1938 he won his first of five (record, shared with Bill Hartack ) Kentucky Derbies on Lawrin. He won the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes six times each (record). He has won the Suburban Handicap eight times, the Wood Memorial Stakes nine times and the Jockey Club Gold Cup ten times. He also won the Canadian Queen's Plate in Toronto in 1953 and won the heavily occupied Washington, DC International in 1954. In 4,779 wins, he won $ 30,039,543.

In 1953 he received the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award, and in 1958 he moved to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs , New York.
