Edward "Eddie" Dunbar (born September 1, 1996 in Banteer ) is an Irish cyclist .
Athletic career
Eddie Dunbar is the first cyclist to win the Junior Tour of Ireland twice - 2013 and 2014. Also in 2014 he won the Junior Tour of Wales . In 2015 he signed a contract with the British cycling team NFTO . In the same year he was Irish runner-up in both individual time trials and road races . With second place in the road race, he was also Irish road champion in the U23 category. At the road race of the UCI Road World Championships 2015 in the U23 category, he drove 75 kilometers at the front in a leading group, but ultimately only finished 108th.
In October 2015 confirmed Dunbar that he 2016. Axeon Cycling Team of Axel Merckx will change. At the La Côte Picarde race in the spring of that year, he had noticed his father Eddy Merckx , who had congratulated him on his performance.
After these successes, the rather slim looking Dunbar was already referred to as the kingpin ( support, most important man ) of Irish cycling. In an interview he said: "I won't quit cycling till I've won the Tour de France." ("I won't stop cycling until I have won the Tour de France.")
In 2018 Eddie Dunbar switched to Irish Aqua Blue Sport . In September 2018, he joined Team Sky due to Aqua Blue Sport's financial difficulties.
Honors
In 2014, at the age of 18, Eddie Dunbar was named Ireland's Cyclist of the Year.
