Eddie Large

Eddie Large (born June 25, 1941 in Glasgow as Edward Hugh McGinnis , † April 2, 2020 in Bristol ) was a British comedian . He was best known for the television shows staged with his stage partner Syd Little (actually Cyril Meed), in which they appeared as Little and Large . Her shows were popular in the UK in the 1970s and 1980s.

Life

Born in Glasgow, McGinnis moved to Manchester where he grew up at the age of eight . He would remain a fan of Manchester City football club throughout his life . After finishing school he became an electrician, but also made money singing in clubs.

In 1960 he met Cyril Meed in a club, whose appearance he disrupted. The two developed a friendship and from 1963 formed the comedian duo Little and Large . After performing in nightclubs and pubs, the duo took part in the 1971 television show Opportunity Knocks . As a result, they were participants in the show Who Do You Do . In 1978 they got their own sketch show on ITV , The Little and Large Tellyshow . After two years at ITV, they moved to the BBC and appeared on the Little and Large Show . At the height of her career, her show drew 15 million viewers. In 1991 the show was discontinued.

The couple toured for a while before Eddie Large had to give up this life because of heart problems; but he still appeared as an entertainer. In 2003 he had heart surgery from which he was able to recover. He spent his old age with his second wife in a house in Portishead .

On April 2, 2020, the comedian died during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
