Precious metal tester

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The precious metal tester is a state-recognized training occupation in Germany according to the Vocational Training Act (BBiG).

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a precious metal tester is usually three years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school .

The profession already existed before the Vocational Training Act came into force. He was recognized in 1937. According to Section 108 (1) BBiG, these professions are considered training professions within the meaning of Section 25 BBiG until regular training regulations are created.

Work area

Precious metal testers examine alloys , solutions and ashes for precious metals. You determine the purity of gold, silver and platinum. This work is important in material testing institutes , as well as in precious metal production companies and refiners . But you can also be employed in quality control at jewelry manufacturers.

professional school

In Germany there is a vocational school for this profession, the goldsmith school with watchmaking school in Pforzheim . There is no framework curriculum for this profession. The content that is taught in the vocational school must therefore be coordinated with the companies providing the training.

development

The training regulations for the profession from 1937 are out of date. There is no training regulation with detailed content and modern examination requirements. The Federal Institute for Vocational Training therefore examined these and other professions in 2008 and 2009 before the Vocational Training Act came into force.

In its investigation, the BiBB comes to the conclusion that the precious metal tester could be reorganized and integrated into a professional family of laboratory professions chemistry, biology and paint. It is also conceivable that the profession will be abandoned, since the need for precious metal inspectors will not increase in the future either. In addition, this profession is only in demand in the Pforzheim area . The BiBB can therefore also imagine creating further training regulations or additional qualifications with updated content for the precious metal tester. These should then be adapted to existing training occupations such as chemical laboratory technicians , physics laboratory technicians or materials tester.
