Edgar Endress

Edgar Endress (* 1970 in Osorno , Chile ) is a Chilean artist whose works are exhibited internationally, including in various institutions in Germany . He lives in Washington, DC

life and work

Edgar Endress began studying economics at the Technical University Metropolitana, (Universidad Tecnologica Metropolitana), Santiago de Chile in 1989 . In 1994 he switched to visual communication at the Institute for Art and Communication (ACROS), which he completed in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts . Funded by a fellowship from Syracuse University , New York, he studied there as a master class student from 1999 and obtained the title Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in 2001 .

In the 1990s, Endress took part in the art biennial for video and electronic art in Santiago, where he received various awards. Further grants followed, such as a 2001 grant from the Grand Marnier Foundation at Lincoln Center , New York. In 2002 he received an artist-in-residence grant from the CICV Herimoncourt Foundation France. In 2003 he was awarded by the Fondart, Santiago. In 2003 he was a visiting lecturer at Mercer County Community College. In the following year he worked as artist in residence at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, where he was funded by a fellowship and in 2005, as the coordinator of the academy, organized a symposium. In 2005 he was visiting professor at George Mason University .

In his work, Endress primarily deals with the topics of flight and immigration. In his films as well as on a painterly and graphic level, he develops different perspectives and implements them playfully.

His works can be seen at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires , Museum of Fine Arts Boston , Museo National Centro de Arte Reina Sofia , Madrid , among others .
