Edgar Jassmann

Edgar Jassmann (born February 11, 1927 in Łódź , † August 28, 1983 in Magdeburg ) was a German chemist.

Life

Jassmann was born the son of the textile manufacturer Arthur Jassmann . His father was from the Rhineland in the Polish immigrant Lodz. In 1939 Jassmann acquired German citizenship. After the end of the Second World War , he began studying chemistry at the University of Leipzig , which he completed in 1953. He then became department head in pharmaceutical production at VEB Fahlberg-List in the Salbke district of Magdeburg and also worked as a research assistant in pharmaceutical research. In 1955 he received his doctorate under Wilhelm Treibs . In 1960 he became head of pharmaceutical research at VEB Fahlberg-List. His tasks included bringing newly developed cardiovascular drugs such as Falicor into series production. In addition, he researched the manufacture of X-ray contrast media and developed innovative production processes.

Jassmann acquired many patents and was a member of the Central Advisory Committee for Drug Traffic . He received several awards, including the Honored Inventor in 1965 .
