Edgar Nemir

Edgar "Ed" Nemir (born July 23, 1910 in Waco , Texas , † February 1, 1969 in Reno , Nevada ) was an American wrestler and boxer and winner of the silver medal at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in wrestling (freer Style) featherweight.

Career

Edgar Nemir was from Kentucky . He attended the University of California after high school and studied sports there in Berkeley . He has been wrestling and boxing since his youth. In 1929 and 1930, the NCAA (United States College Sports Association) became the Collegiate Champion of California in featherweight freestyle wrestling, and in 1933 and 1934 he won that title in boxing.

Although Edgar Nemir was neither in the NCAA nor in the AAU (American Athletes Union) All-American Champion (USA Champion) in wrestling, he won the US Olympic qualification in 1932 and was able to start at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. There he won the silver medal in free style in featherweight with three wins and one loss to Hermanni Pihlajamäki from Finland . Edgar Nemir was unable to take part in other international championships due to a lack of opportunity. There were no World Cups or Pan American Games in those years.

After these Olympic Games, Edgar turned increasingly to boxing from 1933. In 1934 he became head coach for boxing at the sports faculty at the University of California at Berkeley. He held this office until 1969.
