Edgar Schmandt

Edgar Schmandt (born January 12, 1929 in Berlin - † July 13, 2019 in Mannheim ) was a German painter .

Life

After training as a retoucher and tree painter in Berlin, he studied at the University of Applied Arts and Fine Arts, Berlin, as well as at the Free Academy in Mannheim. Since 1975 he has been a member of the Artists Association of Baden-Württemberg , which awarded him the Erich Heckel Prize for a lifetime's work in 2016. He was also a member of the Rhein-Neckar Artists Association and a member of the Senate of the Free Academy of the Arts Mannheim .

Schmandt lived in Mannheim since 1956. His studio had been in the historic observatory since 1963 .

In 2009 the Mannheim filmmaker Norbert Kaiser shot the documentary Edgar Schmandt: Im Homosapiensgelände about Schmandt .
