Edgar Morris Wood Syers (born March 18, 1863 in Brighton , † February 16, 1946 in Maidenhead ) was a British figure skater who started in individual skating and pair skating .

Career

Syers is considered the pioneer of British figure skating and brought a new, more fluid style to Britain. He was the Secretary General of the British Figure Skating Federation and a figure skating coach.

In the individual run, he won the bronze medal behind Gustav Hügel and Ulrich Salchow at the World Championships in Davos in 1899 and in the same year married Madge Syers, who was almost twenty years his junior . At the age of 45, he and her, who was also his figure skating student, competed in pair skating at the 1908 Olympic Games and won Olympic bronze with her behind Anna Hübler and Heinrich Burger and Phyllis and James H. Johnson . This made him the oldest figure skater in Olympic history to win a medal. In 1902 and 1904, he and his wife had won the unofficial pair skating world championships.
