Edith Stein Prize

The Edith Stein Prize is an award given in Germany . It is named after the German philosopher , women's rights activist and Catholic nun of Jewish origin Edith Stein named the 1942 during the era of National Socialism in Auschwitz-Birkenau was murdered.

The prize has been awarded every two years by the Göttingen "Edith Stein Circle" since 1995 to personalities, groups or institutions who are socially, politically or socially active across borders and who have distinguished and proven themselves in an outstanding manner in the spirit of Edith Stein. It consists of a medal designed by Egino Weinert and is endowed with 5000 €. In addition to the Edith Stein Circle, the responsible board of trustees includes both official churches , the Working Group of Christian Churches in Germany , Georg August University , the City of Göttingen, the Catholic University Community , Catholic Adult Education and the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation .
