Edith Carstensen

Edith Carstensen (born July 14, 1926 in Lichtenstein-Callnberg ; † March 21, 2018 in Lübeck ) was a German silhouette artist .

After finishing high school due to the war , she attended the textile engineering school in Chemnitz . After fleeing to the West , she settled in Lübeck in 1952 , started a family and had two daughters (1958 and 1963). Her husband's death from cancer (1978) motivated her to donate her paper cuttings exclusively for the German Cancer Aid from now on . Between 1980 and 1985 she raised 50,000 DM. In 1986 she founded the "Lübeck-Aid für krebskranke Kinder eV", became honorary first chairwoman of the association and organized a total amount of almost € 5,000,000 (five Million euros), which she made available to the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Lübeck (children's clinic), for its patients, equipment, staff and projects. Edith Carstensen has been honorary chairwoman of the association since 2004. In 1996, she established a private, independent foundation, the Edith Carstensen Foundation , which supports families in need with children with cancer.
