Edith Hall
Edith Hall (* 1959 ) is a British classical philologist .
Life
Edith Hall studied at Wadham College of Oxford University (BA 1982), then at St Hugh's College and received her Ph.D. in 1988 After positions at the universities of Reading (1990–1995 Lecturer), Oxford (1995–2001 Lecturer), Durham (2001–2006 Leverhulme Professor of Greek Cultural History) and Royal Holloway, University of London (2006–2012 Research Professor in Classics, English & Drama) Hall has been teaching at King's College London since 2012 . She lives in Gloucestershire .
Her research focus is on the ancient Greek literary and cultural history. Her work also focuses on ancient Greek social and intellectual history, ancient Greek and Roman performance practice, Greek tragedy and comedy , ethnicity, gender and the reception of antiquity, the question of how later epochs were shaped and influenced by ancient cultures.
She has received several awards for her work. In addition to several visiting professorships, Hall is a sought-after expert on radio, television and theater. For example, she advised theater productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Vienna- based theater combine.
