Edith Schmidt

Edith Schmidt is a former German table tennis player from the early 1950s. In 1954 she was German champion in doubles.

Career

Schmidt played at FC Bamberg in the late 1940s, then at MTV Munich 1879 , with whose women she was German team champion in 1950/51. In the early 1950s she competed for the Stuttgarter Kickers . In 1950 she won the with the team of Bayern Germany Cup .

The DTTB nominated them for the individual competitions of the 1951 World Cup in Vienna. Here she won the singles against Coby Van Megen (Netherlands) and reached the third round without a fight, where she was defeated by the Belgian Josee Wouters. The doubles with Hobig (Austria) were eliminated in the first round against Betty Gray / Betty Crews (Wales). In the mixed with Dieter Mauritz , she also lost in the first round to the later silver medalists Vilim Harangozo / Ermelinde Wertl (Yugoslavia / Austria).

In 1952 she took part in the International English Championships. 1954 was a successful year. She won the Palatinate championship, won the Swiss International Championships in singles and doubles (with Kirsten Doser) and took part in the international match against Switzerland. In addition, she won the German championship in doubles with Hanne Imlau (later Hanne Schlaf) . A year later, this double made it to the final. Schmidt had previously reached the semi-finals four times: in 1950 in singles, 1951 in doubles with Erika Buchhold and in mixed with Walter Than and in 1952 in doubles with Urcziny.

In the German ranking list she was in sixth place in 1949/50, in the overall German ranking she was in tenth place in 1953.

Private

Schmidt married in 1961 and was then called Edith Bierbrauer .
