Walter Than

Walter Than (born December 25, 1921 in Cologne ; † October 24, 2011 in Herzogenaurach ) was a German table tennis player .

Career

Than became German individual champion in 1951 by beating Kurt Seifert in the final . In the same year, the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) led him to first place in the national ranking. With the club MTV Munich 1879 he was German team champion seven times between 1947 and 1954. In 1951, Federal President Theodor Heuss honored him and the team with the Silver Laurel Leaf . Than was the first table tennis player to receive the silver bay leaf.

From 1951 to 1953 he made 15 international appearances. In 1999 he ended his active career.

Walter Than lived in Munich since the mid-1940s, most recently in Herzogenaurach. He was married.
