The Bavarian Table Tennis Association e. V. (BTTV) is the association of table tennis clubs in Bavaria and is based in the Bavarian capital, Munich . It was founded in 1945 and with 102,277 members and 1,620 clubs (as of 2011) is the largest regional association within the umbrella organization of the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB). BTTV is also a member of the Bavarian State Sports Association BLSV .

Since the structural reform in May 2018, the BTTV has been divided into four association areas (north-west, north-east, south-west and south-east), each of which consists of four districts. Until the structural reform, the BTTV was divided into the seven districts of Upper Bavaria , Lower Bavaria , Upper Palatinate , Upper Franconia , Middle Franconia , Lower Franconia and Swabia . This orientation towards the government districts in Bavaria was abandoned with the structural reform.

The official organ of BTTV was the monthly magazine "bayern tischtennis" (successor to the Oberpfälzer Tischtenniszeitung ) from 1978 to June 2005 , then until the end of 2009 the online magazine "bayern tischtennis online", which appeared every two weeks. Since the end of 2005, BTTV has been publishing a newsletter, usually every two weeks, which is also sent by e-mail to the specialist control room, game master, club representatives and other interested parties.

History and development

After the war, today's BTTV was launched on October 23, 1945 by Siegfried Hoppichler as state chairman. In the completely bombed gymnasium of MTV Munich 1879 , the brothers Hoppichler and Apfelbeck as well as Fritz Rosinus were there. All active players who were already playing table tennis before the war and wanted to revive this passion.

The sport existed in Bavaria even before the war. When the German Table Tennis Federation (DTTB) was founded, no Bavarian association was involved. It was not until 1927 that the ping-pong club in Marktredwitz became the first Bavarian club to appear at the DTTB.

A table tennis association was founded in Bavaria in 1930 under the direction of Hartel. But this lost its independence in 1936 and was incorporated into Sportgau 16 under the Nazi regime. Until the re-establishment after the war, Bayern had no notable sporting successes. However, this quickly changed. In 1951 , Walter Than was the first German champion to be on the list of winners. He was followed two years later by Conny Freundorfer , who won this title nine times in a row. Together with them, players like Poldi Holusek , Sepp Seiz , Hans Rockmeier , Matthäus Thurmaier , Peter von Pierer and Toni Breumaier were at the top of the German rankings.

The picture at the team competitions was similar. The MTV Munich in 1879 seven times won the German Championship and later became the two-time champions TSV Milbertshofen replaced. It took a long time before Rot-Weiß Klettham-Erding won three women's titles in the 1990s. With the TTC Langweid , the BTTV had a second good team at the start, which from 1996 brought in a total of eight German championships. In the men's category, it was not until 2005 that Müller Würzburger Hofbräu won the title after a long absence.

Many BTTV clubs experienced ups and downs in sporting terms. This is also reflected in the number of members. After 25 years of association, the 1145 member clubs reported around 50,000 athletes to play. By the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s, this increased to approx. 2000 clubs with 120,000 athletes. Since then, the number of athletes has fallen slightly. As with other professional associations, the demographic development and social individualization should contribute to this.

The association's territory is currently divided into 7 districts and 63 districts, where more than 1,200 volunteers work for the association as technical controllers, game leaders and referees. With the new mission statement, a decentralized cash management and restructuring of finances as well as a TÜV certificate for the quality management of the BTTV office, important groundwork has been set for the future.

In July 2017, a structural reform was decided at an extraordinary association day. This new structure came into force on May 1, 2018, as part of the structural reform, the 7 districts and 63 districts that had existed until then were dissolved and 16 new districts were created from an average of 4 previously existing districts.

The last time there was a "purely Bavarian" DTTL participant in the 2007/08 season with Müller Würzburger Hofbräu , while in the 2008/09 season, the TTC Müller Frickenhausen / Würzburg was a "fusion club" formed from the TTC Frickenhausen and Müller Würzburger Hofbräu was started.

The first men's team of TSV Bad Königshofen has been playing in the table tennis Bundesliga since the 2017/18 season , after having renounced promotion the year before.

education

The association offers a variety of training opportunities for its member clubs and players. The focus is on trainer education and training :

  • Assistant coach
  • C trainer
  • B trainer
  • P-Trainer (table tennis prevention trainer = table tennis health sport)

But club manager training is also important for BTTV. The following seminars are offered:

  • Team leader training
  • Youth leader training
  • Executives in the table tennis club and association

The training offer is rounded off with player courses for team players and table tennis camps for ambitious athletes.

The training of players and coaches takes place in the Oberhaching sports school and the Burglengenfeld state performance center founded in 1972 . At the request of course participants, the training locations were designed to be even more customer-friendly. There is the possibility of completing the individual assistant trainer modules and the advanced course for the C trainer license on weekends decentrally - i.e. practically on site.

As the first member association, BTTV began training referees in 1954 .
