Table tennis association Rhineland
The Tischtennisverband Rheinland eV (TTVR) is an amalgamation of table tennis clubs in the Rhineland and is based in Koblenz. The association is a member of the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB), the umbrella organization of the German state table tennis associations.
The TTVR is one of three table tennis associations in Rhineland-Palatinate - alongside the Rheinhessischer Tischtennisverband (RTTV) and the Palatinate Table Tennis Association (PTTV). The TTVR is divided into eight regions (since the structural reform in 1998): Koblenz / Neuwied , Ahrweiler / Mayen - Cochem-Zell , Northern Westerwald / Altenkirchen , Southern Westerwald / Rhein-Lahn , Kreuznach / Birkenfeld , Rhein-Hunsrück , Trier / Wittlich , Eifel . In the 2011/2012 season, 11,585 players were registered in over 1700 teams. Felix Heinemann from Trier has been President of the TTVR since 2017.
On January 1, 2020, the Rhineland Table Tennis Association merges with the Rheinhessischer Tischtennis-Verband (RTTV) to form the new Tischtennisverband Rheinland / Rheinhessen (RTTVR) .

- Arbitration of disputes
- Monitoring the sporting discipline and promoting the sporting community spirit
- Honoring deserving athletes and employees
history
The Rhineland Table Tennis Association was founded on July 16, 1949 in Trier. The first president of the TTVR was Willi Biermann (Trier). In his first term of office he was to lead the association until 1950. Even before the association was founded, there were some clubs that made a name for themselves through successful youth work: for example FSV Trier-Kürenz, Eintracht 05 Trier , TuS Neuendorf , Grün-Weiß Zewen, SV Morbach and TuS Hachenburg. The existing structures there facilitated the establishment of the TTVR. At that time, three clubs were already represented in the highest class in southwest Germany, the men's Oberliga Südwest - namely the TTC Gelb-Rot Trier, CfT Sinzig and TTC Deutsches Eck Koblenz.
In the 1960s, the TTVR was represented in the Oberliga Südwest by the TTC Wirges and the VfL Kirchen, before the TTC Grün-Weiß Zewen finally worked its way up into this class and became the top-playing club in the TTVR. Since the 1982/83 season it has been TTC Grenzau that has secured this title: Since then, the small district of Höhr-Grenzhausen has played in the 1st Bundesliga ; In 1987 the TTC won all three titles: the German championship, the DTTB cup and the European championship championship .
Among the women in the 1970s, the CfT Sinzig and the TTC Olympia Koblenz were particularly noticeable: Both clubs were represented with their teams in the two-part Bundesliga; Koblenz even made it to the finals in seasons 73/74 and 74/75. The position of these two clubs was then taken by TTSG Hargesheim / Rüdesheim, SV Seenplatte and MJC Trier .
The TTVR is organized as a professional association in the Sportbund Rheinland and is one of the largest of the more than 50 professional associations there today. From 1959 the TTVR shared a full-time employee with the handball association. However, the tasks in the TTVR became much more extensive from 1968, so that the association employed its own full-time employee. Since January 1989 two people have been working full-time for the Rhineland Table Tennis Association.
In 1989 the TTVR felt a clear increase in membership. The main reason: Jörg Roßkopf and Steffen Fetzner had just become table tennis world champions in doubles in Dortmund, this title win triggered a boom all over Germany. The youth departments of the TTVR clubs in particular were happy to welcome many new players. The association supported youth work in the clubs through performance courses, management training and state support points. In 1985 Lothar Oswald was hired as a full-time association trainer; from then on he mainly took care of the school and youth work. In addition, the TTVR was very much involved in the establishment of the "table tennis sports train" at the sports boarding school Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium in Kaiserslautern . The former pilot project quickly developed into a recognized sporting institution. In the early 1990s, a federal and Olympic base was established in Grenzau.
In the past 50 years, the TTVR has hosted a large number of national and international events in the service of the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) : in 1954, for example, the women's international match against France in Koblenz, in 1956 the German men played in Koblenz against Italy, and in 1972 in Bad Kreuznach played a European league game against Sweden . In 1982 the Chinese men were even guests in Mülheim-Kärlich. There are also many German championships and national rankings that the TTVR organized for the DTTB in Neuwied, Hachenburg, Engers, Trier, Koblenz or Bad Ems.
The most famous tournament in the TTVR, however, took place annually in Trier in the 1990s : on the first weekend of Pentecost, international table tennis stars played for the Germany Cup ; it had developed from the Trier city championships. The competition was organized by TTC Gelb-Rot Trier, and Heinz Guillaume was the organizer. In 1994 the prize money was 40,000 marks, a few years later it was even 70,000 marks; the men's winner received 20,000 marks. Especially in the first years of the tournament it was the native Chinese stars Yang Jianhua, Chen Xinhua , Johnny Huang, Ma Wenge and Ding Yi who dominated the men's tournament. In 1991 the Pole Andrzej Grubba broke through this phalanx, in 1995 the Russian Dmitri Masunow won , in 1997 the legendary Swede Jan-Ove Waldner . For the women, Xiu Yanhua, Tong Ling , Ni Xia Lian , Jing Tian-Zörner and Jie Schöpp , among others, entered the list of winners. The tournament was held for the last time in 1999.
In the 2011/12 season, 11,585 players in around 1700 teams were registered in the Rhineland Table Tennis Association. Most of these players were active in the Koblenz / Neuwied region (1779), the fewest in the Eifel region (1021).
At the extraordinary association day on October 26, 2020 in Dichtelbach, the members decided to merge the table tennis association Rhineland (TTVR) and the Rheinhessischer Tischtennis-Verband (RTTV) with effect from January 1, 2020. The new structure is called the Tischtennisverband Rheinland / Rheinhessen (RTTVR) ) .

Clubs in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga
The flagship of the TTVR is undoubtedly the TTC drawbridge Grenzau : Since 1982 the club from the Brexbachtal has played continuously in the 1st men's table tennis league, the current table tennis league (TTBL). The association from the district of Höhr-Grenzhausen has since won 13 titles at national and international level. In addition to Grenzau, the women of FSV Kroppach also play in the 1st table tennis Bundesliga. The club from the Westerwald has been represented in the upper house since the 2000/01 season and has been German champions five times since then. From 1997 to 2000 the first SV Winterwerb women's team was also active in the Bundesliga; During this time, the former world-class defender Jie Schöpp , the multiple German national players Elke Schall and Kristin Silbereisen played there . The third currently active team from the TTVR in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga is the second team of the TTC Grenzau.

Rhineland rankings
The Rhineland rankings for women and men have been held in the TTVR since 1951. Theoretically, the best players of the association take part in the Rhineland rankings. In contrast to the Rhineland Championships, the ranking is only played out individually and entirely in groups and without a knockout system. That means: everyone ultimately plays against everyone, the level of performance is correspondingly better mapped.
For the Rhineland ranking list, the players must qualify by corresponding results in the regional ranking lists. However, some are already directly qualified for the Rhineland ranking list - due to correspondingly good results from the previous year. Then there are players who are exempt from the Rhineland ranking list because they can show good results at the southwest and federal level.
Most of the time, the players from the highest-class TTVR clubs dominated the Rhineland rankings. In the 1950s, Lisa Biermann (TTC Yellow-Red Trier) and Marlies Lorenz (Police SV Trier) each won twice. For the men, Franz Guillaume (FSV Trier-Kürenz) entered the list of winners four times. In the 1960s, Sigrid Jakobs (TTC Gelb-Rot Trier) and Berni Höber (TTC Wirges) were each successful three times. At the end of the 1960s to the mid-1980s, the women's ranking was initially dominated by Hannelore Sommer (5 wins / TTC Olympia Koblenz ) and Irmtraud Schupp (3 wins / TTC Olympia Koblenz), before Hannelore Dillenberger (TuS Himmighofen / SV Seenplatte) ) won four times. In the men's category, Klaus Schmittinger (TuS Kirchberg), Bernd Helfen (TV Ruwer), Robert Horsch (TTC Grün-Weiß Zewen), Klaus Schütz (VfL Kirchen) were twice successful and Manfred Baum (TTC Grenzau) three times.
From the mid-1980s, the multiple winners for women were: Antje Bauer (3 wins / TB Andernach), Melanie Jost (3 wins / TuS Rhaunen and TTV Andernach), Petra Steyer (2 wins / TTV Andernach), Annette Klein (3 Siege / TTV Andernach), Julia Minor (2 wins / SV Winterwerb), Julia Schmitz (2 wins / TuS Kehrig and TTC Mülheim-Urmitz / Bhf.), Anja Schuh (2 wins / SG Kirchberg / Rhaunen and TTC Mülheim-Urmitz / Station).
The outstanding player of the last decade is Annika Feltens (TTC Mülheim-Urmitz / Bhf.) With 5 victories in a row.
For men, the Bundesliga players from Grenzau and Nassau have alternated on the first podium since the late 1970s - for a whole 21 years and that was the case until 1999. It is noticeable that after Manfred Baum's hat trick (TTC Grenzau) no player was able to defend his title. However, Lars Britscho (Grenzau) and Markus Hildebrandt (Nassau) - won for the third time in 2003 - were each twice successful. Only Daniel Sporcic from VfL Höhr-Grenzhausen ended this series, in 2001, two years after his first win, he won again; this time in the Grenzau jersey. The dominant player in this millennium is Dennis Müller (TTC Grenzau) with four victories; Markus Streicher (VfR Simmern) won twice.
