Eva Graf

Eva "Evi" Graf - later Eva Ring - (born April 9, 1936 in Saarbrücken , † October 29, 2001 in Trier ) was a German table tennis player . It belonged in the 1950s to the best players and won the 1958 national ranking tournament .

Career

Graf began her table tennis career in 1950 in Rockershausen, a district of Altenkessel in Saarbrücken. Her first success was winning the Saarland championship in 1952/53 in the girls' doubles together with Helga Naumann . In 1954 she joined 1. FC Saarbrücken . In the same and in the following year she was nominated for the world championships, where she represented the then independent Saarland.

In the next few years she won nine titles at the Saarland championships: in singles in 1956, 1957 and 1960, in doubles in 1955, 1956, 1957 (with Helga Naumann) and 1962 (with Ella Schneider) and in mixed 1955 (with Willi Trautmann ) and 1962 (with Helmut Terzenbach). In the 1957/58 season she reached third place in the German National Championships and was invited to international matches several times. In February 1957 she won against Italy in singles, doubles and mixed. At the end of the same year they had two wins against Sweden. Against France in early 1958 she was unbeaten in both singles. In April 1958 she won the international championships in Luxembourg.

1958 Graf was trained by Tibor Harangozo and prepared for the following European championship. Previously, she won the national ranking tournament in Frankfurt. At the European Championships , she progressed one round in singles and mixed games, the German team played no role in awarding the title.

In 1958 she led the German rankings and ninth in the European rankings . At the end of 1958 Graf played another international match against Austria with the German national team, where she won. Because of an arm injury, she then had to give up high-performance sport.

After her marriage in late 1961, she performed under the name Eva Ring . In 1961 she moved from 1. FC Saarbrücken to ATSV Saarbrücken , and in 1962 to TTC Gelb-Rot Trier. In the 1976/77 season she joined the MJC Trier , but could not avoid the team's relegation from the league.

Private

Eva Graf-Ring was employed in the Saarbrücken Ministry of the Interior, where she was given plenty of free time for table tennis activities. At the end of 1961 she married the lawyer, table tennis player and functionary Alfons "Alli" Ring from Trier. She had a daughter with him (* 1962). In 2001 Eva Graf-Ring died of complications from cancer.
