Manfred Baum (table tennis player)

Manfred Baum (born July 18, 1954 ) is a former German table tennis player .

youth

Baum began his career at the Post SV Bonn club. He was German youth champion in 1969 in mixed with Brigitte Scharmacher and in 1970 in singles, doubles (with Holger Schlomm) and mixed (with Monika Kneip ). The following year he won the doubles title again with Hanno Deutz . In 1972 he reached the mixed final with Iris Sudmann. In 1971, he took second place in the top 12 youth ranking tournament.

At the European Youth Championships in Ostend in 1971, he won silver in a mixed with Elsa Toninger.

Adults

In 1970, Baum moved from Post SV Bonn to the Bundesliga club Borussia Düsseldorf . With the men's team, he immediately became German champion in 1970/71. This title was won again in 1973/74. In 1974 he joined SSV Reutlingen 05 , with whose men's team he won the DTTB Cup in 1976. In the European trade fair cup , the team only lost in the final against Spartacus Budapest. 1977 Reutlingen became German champion. In the following years Baum played for various clubs:

In addition to the team competitions, Baum also achieved medal ranks several times at the national German championships . In 1973 he lost the final against the Schöler couple in mixed with Monika Kneip . In 1975 he was second behind Leiß / Schmittinger in doubles with Peter Stellwag . In singles and in mixed matches with Jutta Trapp , he made it to the semi-finals. He was third again in 1977 in doubles with Peter Engel and in 1978 in mixed with Elsa Kickhöfer (née Toninger).

In 1973 Baum was nominated for the world championship , where he came in 9th with the German team. The following year he took part in the European Championships . He played a total of five international matches.

Trivia

Manfred Baum is not related to the brothers Björn Baum and Patrick Baum . He was coached by his father Otto (in the 1970s by his older brother Wolfgang).
