Leopold Holusek

Leopold "Poldi" Holusek (born November 10, 1924 in Bratislava , † April 16, 1993 ) was a German table tennis player . He was a three-time German champion in doubles.

National

At the German championships in 1955 Holusek reached the final in the singles, which he lost to Conny Freundorfer . In 1955, he defended his title from the previous year in doubles together with Josef Seiz . In 1957 he was German champion in doubles for the third time, this time together with Conny Freundorfer. He took silver three times in doubles, in 1951 with Edit Buchholz , 1956 with Seiz and 1958 with Freundorfer. With his wife Friedel (née Gallenberger) he took 2nd place in mixed in 1955 and 3rd place in 1956.

Holusek joined the MTV Munich 1879 club in 1946 . With this he won the German team championship four times in a row from 1948 to 1951. For this, the team was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf in April 1951 . In 1951 he moved to the upper division VfL Munich, a year later to TSV Milbertshofen where he was part of the championship team in 1958. He later played for DJK SB Munich.

The selection of the Bavarian Table Tennis Association , he won in 1951, 1955 and 1957 the Germany Cup .

International

From 1955 to 1957 Holusek completed 18 international matches. He was nominated for the 1955 , 1956 and 1957 World Championships .

Private

After the Second World War, Holusek lived in Munich. Occasionally he performed as an ice clown during the breaks at ice hockey games in the Prinzregentenstadion . He was married to Friedel Gallenberger, who played for Post SV Munich in the 1950s and was one of the top German players. He had (at least) two children with her. In 1993 Holusek died of a serious illness.
