Cornelia Böttcher

Cornelia Böttcher (born July 25, 1977 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German table tennis player with her top performance in the 1990s. She took part in a world championship.

youth

Böttcher began her career at the TTC Assenheim club . She achieved numerous successes at a young age, often in pairs with Nina Wolf. She was second in doubles at the German student championships in 1989/90, a year later German champion in singles and in 1991/92 in first place doubles. At the German youth championships she won the doubles title in 1992/92 and 1994/95. In 1993/93 she reached the final in singles and doubles. In 1996 she became German junior champion in singles and runner-up in mixed with Thomas Theissmann. She was nominated five times for European Schoolchildren and Youth Championships, where she won three bronze medals.

Adult national

Among the adults she was five times Hessen champion, namely in 1994 in singles, 1993 to 1995 in doubles with Nina Wolf and 1996 in doubles with Nadine Schmidt. She won another four titles at the Southwest German Championships, namely in 1993 in doubles with Nina Wolf, in 1994 and 1995 in singles and in 1996 in doubles with Nadine Schmidt. In 2002 she won the German university championship.

After she was promoted from the Hessenliga to the Bundesliga with TTC Assenheim, Böttcher moved to FC Langweid in the Bundesliga in 1996 . With its women's team, she was German champion in 1999 and 2000. In 2000/2001 she played with TV Ochsenfurt in the 2nd Bundesliga. Then she joined TSV Schwabhausen, where she still plays in the regional league today. In 2009 she reached the final at the Bavarian Championships in mixed with Philipp Floritz .

Adults international

Böttcher was appointed to the national team for the first time in January 1997. In the Europa League fight against England, she won the singles against Nicola Deaton . Other places in the Europa League followed: in September 1997 against England and in December 1998 against Russia.

In 1997 Böttcher was nominated for the individual competitions of the World Cup in Manchester. Here in round 1 of the individual competition, Gong Yuechun from China surprised with her clear victory against number 51 in the world rankings. Then she lost to the Korean Ryu Ji Hae . In doubles with Christina Fischer , she was eliminated in the first round against Alessia Arisi / Laura Negrisoli (Italy). In mixed with Timo Boll , she prevailed in the qualifying round against Ryan Jenkins / Bethan Deborah Daunton (Wales) and Marc Schreiber / Sandra Busin (Switzerland). In the main round they lost to Ma Lin / Wang Chen (China).

Functionary activity

Böttcher has been honorary chairwoman of the control commission of the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) since 2009 .

Private

After passing the Abitur at the Heidelberg Bunsen-Gymnasium , Böttcher attended the German Table Tennis Center (DTTZ) in Heidelberg for six years . In 1996 she signed up as a regular soldier in the Bundeswehr sports promotion group in Neubiberg near Munich. At the end of 2007 she took up a position as a public prosecutor in Augsburg.
