Peter von Pierer

Peter von Pierer (born March 17, 1930 in Vienna ; † February 10, 2019 in Marloffstein ) was a German table tennis player and official. In the early 1950s he was one of the best German players.

Table tennis player

It wasn't until the age of 17 that von Pierer started playing table tennis. He joined the association TV 48 Erlangen, to which he belonged until 1987. At the first German championship for boys in 1948 in Lauterbach, von Pierer won the doubles title together with Herbert Marx . In 1951 he was German university champion in Mainz in doubles with Wagemann. Between 1951 and 1954 he played four international matches. He was a member of the German team at the 1954 World Cup . In the same year he was German runner-up in the individual behind Conny Freundorfer . In 1955 he won the Bayern championship in doubles with Herbert Marx.

In the German ranking list he was in second place in 1954.

From 1987 to 2012 von Pierer played at TSV Marloffstein in the lower classes, after which he rejoined TV 48 Erlangen.

Von Pierer also played tennis for 1. FC Nürnberg and was represented in the Bavarian rankings. He was German champion with 1. FC Nürnberg.

Von Pierer volunteered in the Presidium of the German Table Tennis Federation DTTB . Until 1975 he was chairman of the DTTB sports court. From 1975 to 1981 he was a sports warden, then vice president until 1985. In the European Table Tennis Union ETTU he was chairman of the youth committee and until 1986 member of the management committee.

From 1985 to 1995 he acted as sports supervisor of the German Tennis Federation , this office overlapping with that of the DTTB vice-president for half a year. Before that he was chairman of the Middle Franconia tennis district of the Bavarian Tennis Association .

In 1987 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his services .

Von Pierer was a lawyer. He last lived in Marloffstein .
