Matthäus Thurmaier

Matthäus Thurmaier (born April 1, 1932 in Munich ) is a former German table tennis player . He took part in two world championships .

Career

Thurmaier played in the club Post SV Munich . In 1949 he was together with Josef Edenhardter German youth champion in doubles, in singles he reached the final. At the Bavarian Men's Championships he won the title in singles in 1952 and in doubles in 1953, 1954 and 1957. In 1953 it was ranked 11th in the German ranking.

In the same year he was nominated for the World Cup in Bucharest. Here he was eliminated in the first round of the individual competition. In doubles with Toni Breumair , he advanced one lap, with the German team he came in seventh. In total, he played two international matches. Before the World Cup he played against Brazil in Munich, during the World Cup he was used against Romania.

In 1957 he reached the semi-finals at the national German championships in doubles with Helmut Ernst. In 1956 he left Post SV Munich and joined the MTV Munich club in 1879 and returned to Post SV two years later.

At the 1959 World Cup in Dortmund, he took part in the individual competitions. In the singles he did not survive the qualifying round, the doubles with Werner Haupt won over Erik Petersen / Harry Wiingard (Denmark) and failed in the second round to the Chinese Bingquan Hu / Yin-ShengHsu.

Since 1960 he played for the Munich club TSV Milbertshofen . In 1965 he ended his career as a competitive athlete.

Private

Thurmaier is married. He earned his living as an employee at the Bayerische Handelsbank. In addition to table tennis, he actively plays tennis and golf.
