Detlef Siewert

Detlef Siewert (born January 22, 1944 ) is a former German table tennis player . He took part in the 1969 World Cup and the 1970 European Championship.

Career

Siewert is left-handed. He began his career at the Jahn Munich club when he was around 15. He later joined the Bayernliga club SV Weißblau-Allianz München . In 1965 he became South German Master in Erlangen. He defeated Conny Freundorfer and Martin Ness . In 1968 and 1970 he was involved in the rise of Weißblau Munich to the Bundesliga . When the team disbanded in 1972, he moved to Bundesliga club TSV Milbertshofen . In 1983 he returned to his hometown club SV Weißblau-Allianz München and headed the table tennis department there from 1989 to 1999 and again today. In 2012 he was still playing in the national league. Detlef Siewert has been married to the table tennis player Sabine Rath since 2008.

In 1969 Siewert was nominated for the individual world championship competitions . He was eliminated in the singles against Malcolm Sugden (Scotland). A year later he took part in the European Championship in 1970 and was used in the 5-1 win against Luxembourg.

Seniors

In the senior sector, Siewert took part in national and international competitions. At the German senior championships he was three times champion in singles (1996, 2006, 2007), twice in doubles with Roland Stephan (2006, 2008) and in 2007 in mixed with Karin Rauscher. In 2009 and 2011 he reached the final of the senior European championships in doubles in the age group 65+ with Sepp Merk (Westheim).

Until January 2007 Siewert was the managing director of the Bavarian State Sports Association .
