Karla Schulz

Karla Schulz (* 1932 in Pomerania; † February 15, 2018 in Starnberg ) was a German table tennis player .

Life

Karla Schulz began playing table tennis in 1946 at the FC Gunzenhausen club . She later joined MTV Munich . Her first successes include winning the German Youth Championship in 1948/49 in singles and entering the doubles final with Elke Hamel . In 1954 she took part in the German championship, from 1956 to 1958 she was German university champion three times in a row. At the Bavarian Championships in 1957, 1959 and 1965 she won the singles title, plus ten wins in doubles and four in mixed. In 1963 she reached the semi-finals at the national German championships in doubles with Marlies Berger .

In 1962 she was nominated for the individual competitions of the European Championship in West Berlin. Here she was eliminated in the first round both in the singles (against the Yugoslavian Cirila Pirc) and in the mixed with Josef Seiz (against the Dutch Jan Scheffer / Ursula Artz). In doubles with Heide Dauphin , she prevailed against Alima Mokhtari / Martine Le Bras (France), but then lost to the Swedes Britt Andersson / Birgitta Tegner.

In 1965 she married Bobby Schenk , the German university champion in table tennis. With him she sailed the oceans. In 2018 she died in Starnberg after a long illness.
