Edith Witt-Hidé

Edith Witt-Hidé (* 1928 in Berlin as Edith Witt ; † 2009 in Baden-Baden ) was a German illustrator and painter .

Life

Edith Witt-Hidé studied free graphics from 1947 to 1951 at the University of Applied Arts in Berlin-Weißensee and from 1951 to 1956 at the University of Fine Arts in West Berlin . From 1958 to 1975 she lived and worked in Baden-Baden. It was there that she created her first oil paintings and icons on wood. She painted furniture as well as vases and dishes for Villeroy & Boch . In 1965 Edith Witt-Hidé began illustrating picture and children's books for international and German publishers. Among other things, she illustrated many books by the famous children's book author James Krüss . By 1987 around 70 children's books, several coloring calendars as well as puzzles and games had been produced by Boje Verlag in Stuttgart, Bertelsmann , DTV , Engelbert, Thienemann and Otto Maier Verlag in Ravensburg. Edith Witt-Hidés children's books and games were not only sold in Germany, but also in Spain , England and Scandinavia , but also in the USA . From 1975 to 1998 she lived in Provence , from 1998 in Berlin and in Baden-Baden. From 1988 Edith Witt-Hidé devoted herself exclusively to painting and won numerous prizes in Germany and France. She died in Baden-Baden in 2009.
